One hour to Berlin. Then 6 hours to Abu Dhabi. Departure from Copenhagen was 8 PM. Arrival at Abu Dhabi was 6.50 AM. It was a long flight with almost no sleep. But my mom and I were still super excited to explore this part of the United Arab Emirates.
One of my good friends, who lives in Abu Dhabi, picked us up at the airport with his car and drove us around all day being our local guide and private chauffeur. I’m so thankful that he wanted to spend his entire day with us. He told us that he didn’t go to bed that night because he couldn’t fall asleep before he actually had to get up. But to me it was actually a good thing that he was just as tired as my mom and I were. That just meant that we were all in for loads of coffee and in not too much of a rush.
It took a while before we got out of the airport, money at the ATM and arrived at the city. Our first stop was the Grand Zayed Mosque, which opened at 9 AM. The sun was shining with 26 degrees celcius already. And of course my mom and I had to wear an abaya when visiting the mosque.
Even though it was so hot already from early morning, I really enjoyed going there. The mosque is so beautiful all white looking very much like Taj Mahal. And with the sun shining and no clouds at all, we were able to take amazing pictures here.
As soon as we got our first coffee at the coffee shop at the mosque, we headed right to Emirates Palace, which is a stunning hotel, where everything is gold. You can even get a cappuccino with real gold on top here. We checked out the gold ATM, but decided to wait for another time to get our gold to go.
When you’re not a guest at the hotel, there aren’t really that many areas of the hotel that you can check out. During day time you can only visit the lobby and go to the restaurants.
My friend asked me if we wanted to have lunch at his moms place, where his family would be, too. Of course we said yes to this, since we’re so curious to see how people live in Abu Dhabi. Their house was huge with large rooms for every family member. And the food was absolutely delicious. There was more food than we usually get for christmas dinner in Denmark. If I ever get the opportunity to eat his moms food again, I definitely won’t say no to that!
After having very intersting chats with nearly every family member in the house, we headed to Marina Mall tower, where we had another coffee and just relaxed while enjoying the amazing view. We were all so tired, but at the same time we were very happy to see each other again after 1,5 years. It all felt very relaxed in a good way.
Seeing the sun set from the tower made us realize that the day was about to end, and we had to head back to the airport to catch our flight to New Delhi, India.
I sincerely want to thank my friend for being as amazing as he is. Never change being such a wonderful person!
